About Unmade

Unmade was started by former Mumbrella founder Tim Burrowes in 2021. In 2022, Tim was joined by former Mumbrella colleague Damian Francis. Combined, they have well over 50 years experience in journalism, mainly writing about the media and marketing industry.

Unmade offers a unique perspective on developments in the global marketing world seen through an Australian lens.

Unmade’s purpose is to offer context and insights otherwise lost in the daily agenda of press release driven coverage. The name is inspired by that of Tim’s best selling1 first book, Media Unmade was published by Hardie Grant Books in 2021.

Unmade is published on the Substack platform.

Most content published by Unmade is free, with additional analysis and podcasts available only to paying members.

Tim Burrowes 
I write about the world's media and marketing industry through an Australian lens. I've worked in the UK, Middle East, Asia & Australia. I founded Mumbrella, which we sold in 2017.
Damian Francis
I take care of the operations and subscription content at Unmade. I was previously head of content at Mumbrella and prior to that, editor of AdNews. I have been a journalist since 2004.
