Wherever you are in Australia, please don't miss Compass
(Unless you're in Tasmania. You've missed Compass)
Good morning on what is a beautiful day here in Tasmania.
Last night we kicked off our Compass Roadshow here in Hobart. It was a terrific evening at the Hope & Anchor, which may just be the oldest pub in Australia. Mind you, I’m sure they aren’t the only one to make the claim…
It was a special night for me, because Tasmania happens to be my home state.
Our panel had a great discussion, reflecting on the year just gone and projecting into 2025. And of course we chewed over the results of the US election which were coming in while we were on stage. You’ll get to hear the highlights from the night in a podcast later on.
As a result of last night’s action, we’re taking a planned publishing break today. But I did want to quickly drop a note to remind you that Compass is coming to the five other states in the coming days.
But the really special thing about Compass is the relaxed formula: a drink; a genial panel discussion; and then the conversation continuing over drinks and snacks. It’s not quite as full on as a conversation; it feels more like a community coming together.
We’ve done the format a couple of times before in Sydney and Melbourne and it’s always been such a pleasant evening.
So wherever you are in the country, please do jump onto the Compass website. Tickets are $199, or if you were thinking of becoming a paying member of Unmade, they’re complimentary for annual members.
Most, but not all, of Unmade’s audience is in Sydney and Melbourne. I’d love to see you there.
The Sydney edition is next week, on Wednesday November 13, at The Sporting Globe on King Street Wharf. It’s a great panel:
Lou Barrett, MD of Client Partnerships, News Corp
Brent Smart, CMO, Telstra
Jasmin Bedir, CEO, Innocean
Peter Horgan, CEO, Omnicom Media Group
And the Melbourne edition is the following week on Wednesday November 20 at the Garden State Hotel, with a fantastic panel too:
Christian O'Connell, Breakfast host, Gold FM
Thomas Dobson, acting CMO, National Australia Bank
Nomfundo Msomi, Executive Strategy Director, CHEP
Kimberlee Wells, CEO, TBWA
If you happen to be in Brisbane, that’s next Tuesday November 12:
Jonathan Kerr, Chief Growth Officer, Budget Direct
Michael Crutcher, Director, 55 comms and Former Editor, The Courier-Mail
Kylie Blucher, Managing Director, Nine Queensland & Northern NSW
Simon Murphy, Chief Strategy Officer, Publicis
We’re coming to The Globe in Perth on Monday November 18:
Meg Coffey, Founder, State of Social and Managing Director, Coffey & Tea
Steve Harris, CEO, The Brand Agency
Taryn Hare, Executive Manager, Brand and Customer Strategy, Bankwest
Clive Bingwa, Managing Director, Nine
And we’re at The Elephant in Adelaide on Tuesday November 19:
Taylor Martin, General Manager, Simple
David Penberthy, News Corp
Erik de Roos, Executive Director of Marketing, South Australian Tourism Commission
Jamie Scott, Managing Director, Showpony
So please do use that membership perk and join us. As you can see from last night’s pictures, the chance to chat to your peers as the end of the year approaches is part of the fun of the night.
See you on the road…
