The Day Today: Tajer out of Seven; Shep does footy; Netflix joins the collective
Henry Tajer out of Seven
Henry Tajer was ousted as chief commercial officer of Seven West Media after just five months. Since returning to Australia in 2017 after a stint as global CEO of IPG Mediabrands, Tajer has rotated through several roles including as the first MD of Amazon Media Group Australia, CEO of Dentsu ANZ, and CEO of The Influence Group.
Ben Shepherd in league
Ben Shepherd joined the NRL in a “special projects role” which comes as the sport code starts to negotiate a new TV rights deal. Shepherd has rotated through various roles over the last six years including at PWC, CHEP, Bain & Co, Dentsu, and Schwartz Media.
Nick Garrett set to become the maddest of the madmen
Nick Garrett firmed up for a role which would make him Australia’s most powerful agency executive. Garrett, who spent much of his career within the Omnicom-aligned Clemenger Group, is set to return to the group after a stint as global CMO of Deloitte Digital. He is set to take control of both creative and media operations for all Omnicom agencies with IPG agencies to follow when the global merger is completed.
LINA on the line
The Local and Independent News Association warned that drifting government timelines could see it “go under” before new communications minister Anika Wells gets her act together on helping the publishing industry survive.
Bastion appoints Anna Cherry as media MD
Bastion began to round out its new media operation, appointing Anna Cherry as MD under former Dentsu exec Cheuk Chiang.
Netflix joins the VFC
Netflix made an each-way bet on Australia’s TV ecosystem. Having signed up for OzTAM three weeks ago, Netflix has also joined breakaway body the Video Futures Collective.
